This Saturday morning Tony Yap taught a clinic on Casting to Steelhead at the Los Gatos Creek Casting Ponds. Over 20 Flycasters showed up and took advantage of this free clinic.
Tony started the clinic by telling stories of his long experience Steelhead fishing covering a lot of the different steelhead water in both California and Oregon. He talked about where to locate Steelhead in streams and rivers, holding water, what to look for, etc.etc.
Tony next picked up fly rod and demonstrated a number of casting tips that are effective when fishing for Steelhead before having members try these techniques themselves. Tony and Luke Sing then helped the attendees improve their casting skills. Overall it was a good seminar. An added bonus was provided by Keith Nelson and Luke Sing who brought lunch. They cooked sausages, brought hot dog buns, chips, beer, sodas and water for the attendees. An unexpected but very nice touch.
One of the great features of Flycasters is the number of skilled fly fishers who are willing to share their skills to help others become better at the sport we all enjoy.
